Brodowski Quartet

We were very pleased to welcome the Brodowski quartet back to Cliddesden school this year. They started with Hark the Herold Angels Sing followed by Jingle bells before introducing themselves and their instruments.

Children listened carefully to the different tones of the stringed instruments which included two violins, a viola and a cello as they played Away in a Manger.

Children learnt that if the instruments were played using a bow this is called ‘Arco’, and if the instruments were plucked this is called ‘Pizzicato’ , so with this in mind children were instructed to stand when they could see an instrument being plucked, they did this to a piece of music by Johann Strauss.

We then all closed our eyes to the next piece called ‘When you wish upon a star’ by Leigh

Harline, children were encouraged to create

their own story in their heads, some lovely ideas including ‘dancing at a ball’ and ‘Santa dropping his sack’.

The next piece was by J.S. Bach and a few children were picked to control the playing of instruments by lifting the musician’s hats which indicated ‘stop playing’, lots of fun.

Miss. Haresign, Sophia and Daniel each had a turn to conduct the quartet at differing speeds.

The concert ended with a question and answer session and a piece of music by Leroy Anderson called ‘Sleigh Ride’.

A lovely concert with lots of audience participation.
