Year 5/6 PGL

Despite the freezing temperatures and snow fall, the children were undeterred and enjoyed a fabulous trip to PGL where many memories were made.  A few to share:

PGL: the three letters which will turn my attention to that once-in-a-lifetime experience whenever they are brought up. I’ve made truly unforgettable memories and had the most amazing time with the most amazing friends. Despite the snow and freezing cold, our fun was not once ruined. But if there is one memory I could write about…the giant swing.

All of the pairs stood as one group in a small, wooden hut – it wasn’t actually that cramped! We were all amazed and some of us a little scared, but we all conquered our fears in the end. Our instructor, Louis, asked us all, “Who are the first pair?” Even though it took a few seconds to agree, we made up our minds – me and Luke were going first.

Strap. Tie. Climb. Hold. These are just a few of the instructions we had to follow in order to be safe. All of a sudden, when Luke and I were both fully strapped in, it happened; we were raised by our friends using a rope. We were going to the top – and then it was time. “Pull the green rope as hard as you can!” Louis exclaimed. Our hands slithered up the rope, and then… we pulled. The most amazing feeling was at once dragged into our minds as we dropped. I felt the urge to scream something ridiculous… so I did! At the top of my lungs, I screamed. Then it was over, and it was amazing!

Overall, PGL was a fantastic experience and there is nothing that could be made better. I would certainly go again and loved it all.

Dear Diary,

I’m so disappointed that we have had to come home a day early! I know that it wouldn’t be safe to go back on Friday but still, we won’t be able to do trapeze, the thing that I was most looking forward to. Even so, I still made lots of great memories here at PGL.

My favourite thing that we did get to do was definitely the giant swing, even though it did make me feel a little ill. I was terrified as Finley and I were strapped in and the support stand was wheeled away. As the swing was pulled back I closed my eyes and waited until I was told to pull the cord to release the swing. After doing so, I screamed, partly because of how uncomfortable the harness was, partly because of the adrenaline. As it slowed down, I almost didn’t want to get out. The second-best part of the activity was running round to see other people’s faces as they swung.

Overall, PGL has been my favourite trip and I’m a Scout, so I have to go on loads of camps to get badges. If I could do an activity again, I would do the giant swing because it was so much fun. I definitely recommend it to anyone, since it’s open to the public.

Thank you PGL!

First, I just want to say a big thank you to Gabby, our group leader, for being the most optimistic happy leader. She felt bad for us that we had to go home one day early so she took us to the dining hall after hours and got us all hot chocolates!

I had many activities that were my favourites: one of them was survival training where we learnt how to survive in extreme weather. Our first task was to build a shelter out of sticks. I really enjoyed that. A couple of minutes later we used a sparking tool to set fire to some cotton wool. When the cotton wool was burning it smelt like cooked marshmallows.

A couple of days later we hiked to the Devil’s Punch Bowl with fascinating scenery and beautiful animals.

I would definitely recommend PGL because the food is amazing. Thank you Gabby and PGL.
