Oak Fire Visit
Oak Class had the brilliant opportunity to enjoy a visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue based in Winchester.
Our class were split into two groups. One went outside to learn about kit that fire officers need to wear to protect themselves from fires, explosions and other dangerous situations. They showed us how to put their uniforms on and we had the chance to try some on ourselves. We were also shown how to identify household hazard and what we could do to prevent and protect ourselves and our community.
The group working inside watched some video clips about safety in the home and on the roads. We also learnt 3 things about smoke alarms:
- We need to test the alarm system weekly
- We need to change the battery every year on our birthday
- Twice a year we need to hoover around and inside the alarm as spiders lay their eggs which can block the sensor
One very important task we were sent away with was to create our own home safety plan and escape plan that our family could use.
