Year 1 and 2 visit Beaulieu Motor Museum

As part of our topic work 'Are we there yet?' Year 1 and 2 were treated to a visit to Beaulieu Motor Museum.

We enjoyed a tour of the museum where we got to see transport starting with very early bicycles and the first cars built.  We admired F1 cars, motorbikes and even got to see the famous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Before our visit we had been researching The Bluebird, The Golden Arrow, Sunbeam 1000hp  and Sunbeam 350hp which are all land speed record breakers.  Our guide was very impressed with our knowledge when we found these in the museum.

An exciting part of our trip was our ride on 'wheels'.  In groups of three we climbed into a pod and were taken on a fascinating audio-visual journey through the history of motoring.

After lunch, we had a special treat.  Lord Montagu's chauffeur let us all have a ride in Gumdrop which is a 1926 Austin 12hp which features in a set of children's books.

Finally, we could relax on the monorail which is a mile-long and is the oldest in England!  It took us on a tour of Beaulieu from above, offering amazing views of the grounds and gardens where we saw the Mad Hatter's Tea Party topiary display before passing right through the roof of the National Motor Museum!
