World Book Week

Themed doors and door frames

Staff created wonderful themed doors and door frames to inspire the children during World Book Week.  Children's work was then added to these during the course of the week.

Staff Shelfie competition

Many of the staff took photographs of their book shelves and Mrs Nicholson prepared a competition to see if the children could guess, who reads from a shelf like this?  It was easy for some but the children had to be detectives to find out some of the trickier ones.  Well done to Nana-Aba, Quinn, Alize, Ellis, Cameron and Katie for matching the most staff to their book shelves.

Daily buddy reading

Older children shared their books with the younger children.  Later in the week, the children swapped and shared picture books and short stories.  The younger children were very confident and the older children extremely considerate and thoughtful about their book choices and how to share them.

Teacher read

Some teachers read from their favourite books to different classes.  The children loved hearing all sorts of books.

Parent story writing workshops

Willow class used dragon story sacks with their parents to draw story paths and then tell their stories to each other.  They were very imaginative.

Beech class thought of amazing descriptive words and used these with their parents to write descriptions of characters from Jack and the Beanstalk.

Chestnut class pretended to be Roman soldiers and wrote parts of a diary entry.  Each part was then put together and read as a complete day with the children's parents.  The children brilliantly showcased their developing knowledge of Roman Britain.

Oak class took 'Please Sir, can I have some more?' scene from Oliver and re-wrote it in the first person.

Weird write

Each class wrote a section of our weird write story.  The story was pulled together and edited by Oak Class.  Mr Davies read the complete story in our World Book Day Assembly.  It was thrilling!  Click here to read 'The Mystery of the Missing Book' and save a copy as a keepsake.

Spelling Bee

Year group heats were completed under strict rules prior to the big final on Wednesday. Well done to Amberley, Edward, Ewan, James, Quinn, Lewis and James for winning their year groups.  A tense but exciting final competition was held and reflected the high standard of spelling in our school.  Congratulations to Ewan from Year 2 for winning our Spelling Bee 2017.

Dress up for World Book Day

The children and staff looked amazing and spent the day sharing their favourite books, doing tricky Bumper Book Quizzes and admiring each other's costumes.  Hackwood House won the Bumper Book Quiz.

The Old Story Teller

Each class had a visit from a story teller who told amazing stories which enthralled and inspired the children.

Our Library has recently been restocked so the children had the opportunity to buy some books at our book sale and give them a new home.
