Book Week

Author visit Monday 4th March

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome children’s author Anne Wan to our school. Anne told us all about herself and she became an author. She shared all her life lessons which she has learnt along the way to becoming an author.

Willow and Beech class had a creative workshop, thinking about going into a snow globe. Later they listened to “Manners fit for the Queen” with Anne and her puppet helper and a bag of interesting things.

Oak and Chestnut learnt all about the writing process and how small ideas can lead to a story.

Everyone was inspired by Anne’s determination to become a writer.

The children really enjoyed this great opportunity and some even bought books signed by the author herself.

Spelling Bee Tuesday 5th March

Every class held a Spelling Bee to find out who was the best speller in each year group. Everyone tried really hard and there was some great spelling.

The tension mounted as each year group winner went into the Cliddesden Spelling Bee Final 2019.

All the year group winners were amazing and spelt with confidence. The finalists were:

EYFS – Raymon, Y1 – Macey and Skyelah, Y2- Pascal, Y3-Edward, Y4-Morgan, Y5- Basil, Y6- Krish.

After a close contest, Morgan came 3rd, Raymon 2nd, and Skyelah 1st.

Well done to all our winners. Keep spelling!

Cliddesden Week Book Challenge

All the staff brought in books with some objects linked to each one. They challenged the children to match all the objects to their books. For example there was “The smartest giant in town” and a gold paper crown with a tie, and a butterfly from “The very hungry caterpillar”.

Buddy Reading

The children enjoyed visiting different classes and reading with older and younger children. Everyone was very confident and really liked sharing new books, and remembering old ones too.

Weird Write

This year, each class had an image of a strange forest from Mrs Nicholson. In groups, the children built up a story around this image with their class teachers. The children worked hard on story structure, features and vocabulary.

The children also created weird zig-zag characters with their friends. Some created character descriptions, weird names or stories about their newly created characters.

World Book Day

Thursday was World Book Day. We loved seeing all the different costumes and we were very impressed with the effort that everyone went to.

Big Book Quiz

Friday was the final day of book week, so we thought about all the exciting things we did this week. In our house teams we took part in the Big Book Quiz. We tried really hard and gave some great answers!
