Armistice Day

Cliddesden Primary School remembered:

  • Willow Class created a stunning poppy painting
  • KS2 children wrote some beautiful poems
  • Poppies and other remembrance items were sold
  • Each class filled a poppy with coins
  • Assembly was held, observing 2 minutes silence with our guest, Mr Connolly.

This week, in addition to the class activities arranged by the teachers, Friends provided giant images of the remembrance poppy. The children have been bringing their loose change into class to fill up the images. By the end of the week they had collected a total of £39.88.

On Friday afternoon we welcomed Mr Frank Connolly, Chairman of The Royal British Legion Basingstoke & Deane Branch to speak at our special Remembrance Assembly. We saw some lovely artwork and listened to beautiful poems created by some of the children. Frank then gave a brief talk to the children about Armistice, The Royal British Legion and the importance of the poppy and it’s link to the end of the First World War. Although this was a fundraising activity it also gave the children the opportunity to explore facts about an important time in history and helped them understand why we commemorate Armistice.
