Year 4 Privett Residential
Our Year 4 children couldn't wait to explore their surroundings upon arriving at the Privett Centre, our home for the next 3 days.
We were welcomed by a hailstorm which rapidly cleared and the weather stayed fine, if a little chilly, until we left to another hail down pour on the Friday.
We were amazed to find so many similarities to our school building that it felt instantly familiar and we settled quickly.
Day 1 - Sustainability Centre
We were joined by Louise from the Sustainability Centre based in East Meon, Hampshire. Click here to visit their website.
We learnt a great deal about recycling and were shocked at how long some items, such as nappies (100 years), take to decompose.
We also thought about water preservation and what we could do to help save water. We listened to a story about Mika who every other day travelled 8 hours to collect 15 litres of water to care for her family. 15 litres to feed, cook, wash and clean with!
We then got creative making our own tree spirits and chalk carvings.
Our recycling challenge:
We had to keep as much out of the waste bin as possible.
Our water challenge:
Could we get the water from one bucket to the other without spilling any?
Natural Art:
We created tree spirits. Our theme was 'Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share'.
Day 2 - Queen Elizabeth Country Park
We were orienteers.
Using our maps we had to find clues around the park to solve the puzzle.
We went on a mini-beast hunt. Using our pooters we carefully sucked the mini-beasts into our pots to investigate further.
We learnt how to build a fire safely and then enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
In teams we built dens. They had to accommodate our whole team, be waterproof and sturdy.
Day 3 - Village Walk
Our final day arrived, we packed, prepared lunch and cleaned the Centre before enjoying a walk around the village.
We identified a number of houses and compared the materials they were built with.
We stopped at Lime Copse where we had to find a quiet spot, be silent and think about what our surroundings meant to us. We recorded these on our 'Emo-Scans'.
Finally, we visited the church and were all amazed at its size and were fascinated by its history.
