Ballroom Dancing Workshop
The children have been collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers and were finally rewarded with a ballroom dancing class! The dancers took the classes individually, teaching the children the Quickstep, the Cha Cha and the Samba. Although the dances were tricky, the children all had a go and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The dancers told the children to get into pairs and taught them how to hold each other using the ballroom hold. The ballroom hold is where the boy places his hand on the girl’s lower back, whilst the girl places her hand on his shoulder. After giggles from the children and staff, we were all ready to start learning the steps!
The dancing teachers explained that when holding your partner you have to hold them with a solid stance, supporting each other through the steps. We had lots of wobbly arms and legs to begin with, but after practicing with the music a few times, the children really understood the steps and were ready to put it altogether.
The boys were apprehensive at first, but after getting into the steps they were all laughing with their partners and trying to make sure their moves were similar to the professionals. All the staff were really impressed with the dedication and maturity from the children, all wanting to progress their dancing skills and listening intently to the professionals.
Many of the children had never taken part in ballroom dancing before, offering them an amazing opportunity to learn a new skill. Thank you to the Sainsbury’s Active Kids staff for working with the school and creating a fun, energetic session that we could all get involved with!
