Report by:
Tom and Elliot - Year 6
Mr Stapleton (with the help of Elliot and Tom in Class G) organised a Subbuteo World Cup for KS2. Before we began the tournament we had to do a draw to see which student got which country/team.
Group A:
Brazil = Emma. Croatia = Jonathan. Cameroon = Max W. Mexico = Olivia C.
Group B:
Spain = Thomas B. Holland = Ryan. Chile = Carys. Australia = Ashleigh.
Group C:
Colombia = Elliot B. Greece = Phoebe. Japan = Alex B. Ivory Coast = Zac.
Group D:
Italy = Fred. Uruguay = Thomas S. England = Adam. Costa Rica = Harrison.
Group E:
France = Finley. Switzerland = Katie Barden. Honduras = Thomas B. Ecuador = James B.
Group F:
Argentina = Louie. Bosnia and Herzegovina = Sean. Nigeria = Mia B. Iran = Oliver.
Group G: Germany = Sebastian. Ghana = Hannah. Portugal = Nikihla. USA = George.
Group H: Belgium = Archie. Algeria = Tom L. South Korea = Heath. Russia = Mimi.
The group stages were very exciting as there were close games such as Japan v Ivory Coast seeing them draw 1-1. On the other hand, there has been some outrageous score lines; for example Colombia stormed over Ivory Coast 6-0. The teams that progressed to the following round consisted of: Brazil, Croatia, Holland, Chile, Colombia, Japan, Italy, Uruguay, Honduras, Ecuador, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Germany, Ghana, Algeria and South Korea.
In the knockout stages we saw many tight games such as Honduras v Ghana which ended 13-14 on penalties to Ghana! We also saw some huge defeats such as 6-0 to Algeria against Iran and 5-0 to Colombia against Uruguay.
In the quarter-finals we saw some more big scorelines such as: 5-0 to Colombia against Holland and 3-0 to Italy against Brazil. We were in for some special Semi-Finals!
So in the Semi-finals it was Algeria v Ghana and Colombia v Italy. The game between Algeria and Ghana ended with Algeria beating them 2-0, Colombia beat Italy 1-0.
In the third place play-off we saw Ghana play Italy. Italy won 6-4 on penalties which made Ghana 4th and Italy 3rd .
The Final was Algeria v Colombia which ended up as a victory for Columbia beating Algeria 4-0.
Many thanks to Mr Stapleton and Mr Blowes for helping make this happen.
