Sports Day

After a damp start Cliddesden Primary School sports day commenced with Keystage 1 (Year R, Year 1 and Year 2) working hard to gain house points for their house teams.   The children moved around 6 skill activity stations designed to challenge and practice skills they have been learning throughout the year. These included: large target aim for golf, distance throwing using howlers, standing long jump, precision aim by throwing beanbags into hoops and a water race, challenging stamina and speed. The activities were run by Brighton Hill Community College young leaders and our Cliddesden School sports leaders. Cliddesden School sport leaders have worked hard on the run up to Sports Day by informing all children of good sportsmanship and risks associated with sport.

Following these activities the children took part in a running track race and a relay race, which they ran in their house teams. Each child’s time was recorded and places were given for males and females for each year group. All the children participated well and enjoyed being cheered on by Keystage 2 during the track races.

The whole school enjoyed a restful lunch before Keystage 2 (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6) began collecting house points. The children again moved around in their houses to 6 skill activity stations, which were designed to challenge and practice the skills they have learnt throughout the year. These included: precision small golf aim, throwing the javelin, shuttle run - which tested stamina, multi skill race using hockey and football dribbling and tennis racquet and ball control and speed bounce, which was a test of speed and agility. The children worked hard throughout these activities and relished the sixth – the rest station where they rehydrated and snacked on fruit provided by Tesco’s!

Finally KS1 came out to cheer KS2 in their running and relay races. Under duress from all the children the staff took part in the traditional ‘teachers race’ which tested new skills this year with the added element of an egg and spoon! To follow our wonderful, competitive parents participated in a mixture of running and egg and spoon races all of which resulted in a lot of smiling and giggling!

Last but not least – the results!

House winner 2015 = Ellisfield

2nd place: Winslade

3rd Place: Farleigh

4th Place: Hackwood

The top three Year group running race children will receive their certificates in our end of year assembly.

Finally, a note from me – thank you to all the children who worked so hard and made the day full of smiles and enjoyment and thank you to all the parents and carers who cheered all the children on throughout the day – it would not have been the same without you!
