Chestnut Class visit Fishbourne Roman Palace

Report by:  James and Katie

On Tuesday 10th of March, Chestnut Class, from Cliddesden School, went on a school trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace. This trip was to expand our knowledge about Ancient Roman Art and everyday life there.

After we arrived, we all gazed at a three dimensional model of the Roman Palace before an out of control, raging fire burnt it to the ground, little of it still remaining…

We all learnt what the Palace looked like in 43AD, before the fire.

After that, we looked at the Mosaics; one of which was Cupid on a dolphin, which was in nearly perfect condition.

Then we watched a video all about what the Palace might have been like before it was destroyed.

Afterwards, we split into two groups. My group went and looked around the garden, there were lots of neatly cut hedges and carefully grown flowers, it was a picturesque sight. There were Marshmallows and Basil.

Following this exciting event, was the best event of the day, the Workshop!!!

At the workshop we pretended to be slaves. We did lots of different activities, such as, working in the kitchen or making a roof. Only two schools managed to make the roof and we were one of them!

Later that day, we went to the museum learnt lots about ancient roman food we also learnt about what the Palace looked like just after the Roman invasion.

After another quick look at the mosaics we got back on the coach and headed off to Cliddesden.

I liked learning about the Ancient Romans and I will definitely be going back.
