KS2 Cricket Tournament

Report by:

Tom and Elliot - Year 6

Our first match was against St Bede’s. St Bede’s batted first as Tom won the toss and chose to bowl first. Tom bowled first and Archie caught the first batter out. Fred bowled second and took a wicket on his second ball. Elliot bowled third and took another wicket on his third ball. Then Archie, Heath and Jack bowled but they didn’t take any wickets. Thomas Bar was the next to bowl and took a wicket on his first ball. Thomas Ban caught a batter from Thomas Bar's delivery. Thomas Ban's did not take any wickets.

First to bat for Cliddesden was Tom and Elliot. Elliot was caught out on his second ball. Soon after Elliot hit his own wickets. After that Tom was bowled out. On a lighter note, Elliot hit the first six of the match. The next batting pair was Thomas Ban and Jack. They had no effect on the match. Archie and Heath were in next, Archie hit 3, 4s and Heath got bowled out. Next in Thomas Bar and Fred. Fred got bowled out and so did Thomas Bar to level the score between the two teams, 228 runs a piece. But St Bede’s won because they took 1 more wicket than Cliddesden. The narrowest of defeats as we had been winning until the very last ball of the match!

Our next match was against Ruckstall. Cliddesden to bowl and Tom to start us off he took no wickets unlike Fred who bowled a batter out. Elliot was next to bowl  and bowled a player out and made a delivery where Tom stumped the opposition. Heath, Archie, Thomas Bar and Thomas Ban together did not take any wickets. Ruckstall finished 230 for 3.

Cliddesden to bat. Thomas Bar and Fred came into bat first. Thomas hit 4,4,4,4 and another 4. Archie and Heath to bat next. Heath got caught out. Jack and Thomas Ban to bat, Jack hit a 4. Last to bat was Tom and Elliot. Tom hit 2, 4s. Cliddesden finished 254 for 1. A victory for us by 24 runs.

Our last match in our pool was against Hurstbourne Tarrant, we needed a win to have a hope of proceeding to the semi finals. Tom won the toss and chose to bowl. Tom was up first. Then it was Fred to bowl, he bowled and the batter was caught out. Elliot to bowl. The batter was caught by Ryan. Archie to bowl, he didn’t bowl anybody out. Ryan was to bowl next and he bowled the batter out. Jack was bowling next, he bowled and the batter was caught out by Thomas Ban. Thomas Ban and Thomas Bar were the final bowlers and they both got a wicket. Hurstbourne scored 208 for 6.

In to bat for Cliddesden was Thomas Bar and Fred, the opposition bowled lots of wides and took no wickets. Next in was Archie and Ryan, they scored plenty of singles. Thomas Ban and Jack were next to bat they made no boundries. Finally in to bat were Elliot and Tom, in the final over the opposition needed to bowl six balls which were not wides or no balls. Hurstbourne gave away 8 runs from wides and no balls giving us a chance to win the match, the two boys took advantage of this opportunity and Tom hit 4, 4s which won us the match. Cliddesden scored 232 runs to win by 24 runs again.

Unfortunately, losing against St Bedes meant we did not progress to the Semis. But overall it was a very enjoyable day for the team and they all performed brilliantly, having won 2 matches easily and losing 1 very narrowly.   It has been Cliddesden's best performance in this tournament ever.
