Tag Rugby League

19th October 2015

Report by:

Mr Davies, Headteacher

Our Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby team went along to Overton School on Thursday 19th October to take part in the second round of the Viking League. A shock defeat from the home side left us to reconsider our tactics (a number of verbal warnings were given to our ‘over-zealous’ play!). Next we faced firm favourites, Oakley who narrowly beat us 5 tries to 4. This upped our game and we achieved an exciting and well deserved 6-6 draw with North Waltham.

Oakley lead the table on 28 points, North Waltham on 18 points and Cliddesden and Overton equal on 12 points. The season resumes in the spring term. We shall take our positive performance and add some more training in order to be ready for the next round, and to try to climb up the table.

On Thursday 19th October the Cliddesden Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Team went to Overton School to play three matches against North Waltham, Oakley and, of course, Overton.  In one of the matches, Adam quickly dodged through the opposition and sprinted for the try.  In the end we lost two close matches against Oakley and Overton and our team drew against North Waltham.  After the last match, our coach, Mrs Banks, said that she had seen a lot of improvement in our matches even though we lost two.  Our passing and catching has improved and the team was working very well together.  Our final scores were 5-4 against Oakley, 6-6 against North Waltham and 3-1 against Overton.

28th September 2015

Report by:  Fred, Year 5

On Monday 28th September, Cliddesden’s tag rugby team went to North Waltham Primary School to play the first meeting of the Viking Rugby league.

In our first game we played the tough North Waltham. At the half way point it was 1-1 but North Waltham were able to score three more tries to win the match 4-2.

Cliddesden had a quick break before playing Overton. Cliddesden started well because we were 2-0 up. Overton pulled it back to make it 2-2 but in the final stages Cliddesden scored the penultimate try to ensure a 3-2 victory.

Full of confidence the team went out to play the final game of Cliddesden’s first meeting in the Viking league 2015/16. Oakley scored 2 early tries and Cliddesden weren’t able to stop them.

They ran away with a 5-1 victory to secure their place at the top of the league.

Cliddesden sit 3rd in the league hoping for more victories.
