Visit by author, Billy Bob Buttons

On Monday 5th October, Chestnut and Oak class were visited by ‘Billy Bob Buttons’, an author who has written many books.

He told us that there were three main things that an author needs to think carefully about: plot, setting and character. His top tip to us all was to get the reader to care about the character, so that you want to read on and find out what happens to them.

He said that when he writes, he describes his imaginary characters by comparing them to something that the reader will know about. He uses all five senses – even taste! One of the characters in his books even imagines putting other people in a stew – “If I put him in a stew, it’d taste of pig swill.”

His final advice to us: “Heroes aren’t perfect, and even villains have good sides.”

We enjoyed meeting him and lots of us bought his books to enjoy at home.
