Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Norman League

October 2023
On Thursday 12th October Cliddesden's Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby team took part in the first fixture of the Norman League. Despite the long serving organiser of leagues in Basingstoke, Roger Filbey, retiring earlier this year, our local schools agreed to continue.

Cliddesden were last years league winners and with new players in the squad, continued to show their dominant form. We beat St John's, Hatch Warren and Kempshott Juniors and drew with North Waltham. This currently places us top of the league. In the spring term we will have three more meetings with the teams in our league and hope to carry on the good form.

February 2024

We took part in the second round of The Norman League Tag Rugby. Again, our team were outstanding, winning all their games. With the league half-way through, we are top of the table and 12 points clear of second placed Kempshott Juniors.

April 2024

Congratulations to our Tag Rugby Team for winning The Norman League for the second consecutive year. This is an outstanding achievement considering the size of our school and is testament to the high profile of sport at Cliddesden.

We entered the final meeting of the league on Wednesday with an 18-point lead over the other schools and were until this point unbeaten. However, at QMC this week the standard of the other teams had improved and although beating St John’s and Hatch Warren, we drew against Kempshott Jnrs and suffered our first defeat in the league to North Waltham. This was enough though, to win the league by an impressive 70
points, 12 clear of runners up Kemphott.

In June we will be taking part in the Basingstoke Schools Tag Festival where we will face some very stiff competition from a larger group of schools. We will be working with the squad to try and retain our dominance and improve on our weaknesses in time for the event.
