Privett Residential

At Privett we learn to be independent, work as a team and make new friends.

We enjoyed being part of a team to earn 'Privett Points' by helping around the centre and by looking out for each other.

We had to make sure our beds were made and dorms were tidy.  We also had to help to prepare our meals and set the table.

Free time was spent learning to play pool, taking part in football matches on the football table, reading in the quiet room or enjoying the outdoor space.

When we arrived we were joined by Louise from the East Meon Sustainability Centre.

We learnt so many new things about recycling and why it was important to recycle as much waste as we can.  We practised sorting waste in our recycling activity.

We listened to a story about Miko from Africa who had to travel over 8 hours every other day to collect water for her family.  We then carefully thought about how we could help to save water.

We pretended to be bees and had to protect our hive and go out collecting nectar from our surroundings.

Finally, we enjoyed making tree spirits thinking about the world and people around us to inspire our creations.

The next day we visited Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

In pairs, we had to study a map and use this to find 10 different animal signs around the park.  We had to think about the orientation of the map and which route to take to find the animals.

Using pooters we went on a bug hunt in the woods carefully lifting logs and moving leaves to find the bug's habitats.

In teams we then had  to build dens.  The den had to be as watertight as we could make it and they were put to the test at the end of the session.  We ended the trip drinking hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows around the fire.

Our final morning took us exploring the village and church.  We followed the public footpaths until we reached Lime Copse where we all sat very quietly and appreciated the beauty of nature around us.

Our walk continued until we reached the Church.  We learnt lots of facts about the church and Privett Centre.  Why not ask us about them?

A tired, weary but happy group of Year 4's then returned to the centre, packed up and returned home to tell their tales.
