Year 5/6 Sparkling Rugby Tournament
A squad of 13 children from Oak Class took part in the Sparkling Rugby Tournament at Overton RUFC on Wednesday.
We arrived in good spirits to face our first opponent Merton. We were strong from the start and were rewarded with a try from Ollie followed by a try from Carys who ran and dodged with the ball from the halfway line. Merton came back with a try which was quickly followed up with a try from Ryan ending in a win to Cliddesden 3-2.
Next to play us were Hurst Bourne Tarrant who were a strong side and after a very evenly played match ended in 4-4 with 3 try’s from Jack and one from Lottie.
Cliddesden had a short break but then faced Bourne Valley Ducks who were quick off the mark and beat us 4-1. The try scored by a fast moving Olivia.
Cliddesden then lost to The Priory 2-5 with trys from Hannah and Faith.
Cliddesden last match was against the barbarian side The Goths, a mixture from all teams and whom Thomas and Verity had played for throughout the tournament scoring a number of trys and making some excellent runs and passes.
This was a close match ending in a 2-3 loss. Jack again like a whippet ran through to score a try followed by a try from Ryan set up by Hannah.
Some excellent teamwork from all our players who showed great respect to all their opponents throughout the day and were awarded the fair play cup for their group at the end of the day.
