Oak Class visit Winchester
On Wednesday 18th May, Oak Class went on a School trip to the city of Winchester to learn about life in the Kingdom of Wessex during Anglo-Saxon times. We visited the city museum and completed a range of activities including: Winchester City model comparisons; King Alfred Statue (model); Grave stones; Cases 11 and 17; Burial Pots. We were able to study and sketch real artefacts from Anglo-Saxon times and compare objects from pre King Alfred and during King Alfred’s reign in Wessex.
After that, the groups had a tour of Winchester City Cathedral. Everyone learnt a lot from our fantastic guide including the name of a famous Anglo-Saxon Saint- Saint Swithun.
Everyone had a great time in “The Capital of Wessex” and the knowledge we obtained- on the trip- will come in very handy in later life.
