KS1 Dental Hygiene
Jo, one of our school nurses, visited us to talk about dental hygiene.
We had to think about:
- How we keep our teeth clean?
- What should we be eating to keep our teeth and gums healthy?
- How long do our adult teeth last?
- Why do we have teeth?
- What do our individual teeth do?
We also looked at different parts of a tooth; enamel, dentin and pulp.
We discussed our 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and tried to estimate how much we thought a portion is.
Jo then demonstrated how to clean our teeth properly whilst timing it.

2 minutes seemed an awful long time! She showed us, where possible, how to clean all 5 sides of our teeth.
We finished off listening to a story about Big Keith who didn't look after his teeth. Thankfully, with the help of his dentist, Big Keith learnt the importance of looking after his teeth properly and was rewarded with a sparkly, healthy smile.
