On a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon Willow and Beech class had some very fluffy little visitors. Three black lambs called Jimbo, Jessica and Jackson kept us all entertained and the children enjoyed asking Oliver’s Mum and Grandad lots of questions about them. The children were amazed to see they were black sheep and were interested in the tiny horns that are beginning to grow.

Here are some of the interesting facts we found out:

  • All three lambs have been hand reared as they are orphans and Jackson in particular is very tame!
  • The lambs ranged from 2 – 3.5 weeks old.
  • Jackson has doubled in size in 3.5 weeks!
  • When Jimbo was on his own in the pen he called for his friends – the children thought this was because he was lonely.
  • If a lamb gets lost in the field they can be returned to their Mother because ewes and lambs have matching numbers sprayed onto their sides.
  • All lambs have tags on their ears so they can be identified.

Beech class have been learning about basic animal groups (invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds) and they decided which group the lambs fitted into and why:

Daniel W: They give birth to their young.

Luca: They produce milk for their young.

Sophie: They are warm blooded.

Rose: They have hair.

Evie: They have got a backbone.

Alice: THEY ARE A MAMMAL.

Beech and Willow class enjoyed their very cute visitors and would like to thank Olivers Mum and Grandad for bringing them to School.
