Scrooge Pantomime

There was a lot of audience participation at this year’s Pantomime brought to us by West End Productions. The children enjoyed a story and songs about Scrooge which showed how giving is an important part of Christmas.

The story started with a trainee spirit who was given the job of saving Christmas by turning Scrooge from someone who was miserable and didn’t celebrate Christmas to, someone who was happy and enjoyed Christmas.

The spirit visited Scrooge on Christmas Eve to show him what he was like. First he was visited by the Spirit of Christmas Past who took him back to his old school and his best friend, Herburt, who brought Scrooge a toy bunny and was having fun. Scrooge did not return the gesture of giving and refused to join in the fun. Then Scrooge was taken back to his first job where his very Scottish employer enjoyed the festivities of a Christmas party and again the giving of gifts. Scrooge did not join in, he stayed Bah! Humbug!

The next spirit was the spirit of Presence who showed Scrooge how poor Mr Cratchett was, although he still tried to give his sick son, Tim, a good Christmas and even though he had very little food Cratchett still tried to invite Scrooge for Christmas, of course he refused.

The Spirit was becoming frustrated at the thought she was unable to save Christmas so she decided to show Scrooge the spirit of Christmas future, his grave, un kept with no flowers or visitors, and then Scrooge spotted Tiny Tim’s grave as Cratchett visited him.

Scrooge wanted to change he bought the biggest Turkey and gifts for all the people he knew and spent Christmas with Cratchett and his family.

The pantomime story ended with songs from the story which children joined in with.
