Beech Class visit Marwell Zoo.

Beech Class really enjoyed their trip to Marwell Zoo which fitted nicely with our current Science and Geography curriculum looking at different classification of animals, their habitats and whether they lived in a polar or desert environment.

As we visited each enclosure the children discussed whether the animal was:

  • a mammal:  were they warm blooded, did they give birth to live young, did they have hair and 4 limbs?
  • a reptile:  did they have scales and scutes?  Were they cold blooded?
  • an amphibian:  could they survive land and water?  Were they cold blooded?
  • a bird:  did they have wings and 2 legs?
  • a minibeast: invertebrates with no back bone?

The children also discussed whether the animal was prey or a predator and decided if they thought the animal was carnivore, omnivore or herbivore.

The children were a credit to our school and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day at the zoo.
