SCARF visit

Willow Class

We had a visit from Caroline from the SCARF life bus.  She talked to us about our amazing bodies. We enjoyed seeing inside our bodies.  We thought about being healthy, talking to our friends and what to do when we are sad. We sung songs, danced and learnt lots!

Harold came to see us, and showed us the things he takes for a sleepover.  We helped him pack his bag with things to wash, clean his teeth and help him feel happy at bedtime (a story and toy).

We watched on his webcams as Harold went to his grandparents and played safely in the park.

At the end we watched the stars and made them disappear by blowing them!

Thanks Caroline.  Willow Class look forward to seeing you and Harold again.

Beech Class

We had a lovely visit from Caroline from Coram Life Education. She came to run a special SCARF session for our class. The children all had great fun exploring different areas using their senses.

We found out what we need to stay healthy: oxygen, sleep, water, food and exercise. After that we discussed how our blood carries what we need around the body. Using a very special t-shirt the children were very excited to see the inside of Mrs Jordans’ body. We got to explore the skeleton, intestines, lungs and see the heart pumping.

Later, we all got to meet Harold the giraffe and help him to stay safe. He wanted to help his poorly friend by giving him his medicine. The children helped Harold to understand we should never share out medicines and only adults should handle and open them. They came up with other ways that Harold could help like; talk to his friend on the phone, tell him some jokes, keep him company and make him a get well soon card. Beech Class also learnt how to help themselves if they ever feel ill. They need to get lots of sleep and drink lots of water!

Finally, we finished the session by being feeling detectives. Beech Class were very good at identifying the different feelings shown by the children at Harolds party and they came up with solutions to help the children feel secure and happy again.

Chestnut Class

Chestnut Class had a guest visitor - Harold the Giraffe. We were very excited by his visit and we learnt lots from him too.

Harold wears a special scarf and his scarf stands for: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship.

During Harold’s visit we learnt about the importance of keeping safe and staying healthy. We discussed what different parts of our bodies are used for, including our intestines and heart. We used a QR scanner to look inside different parts of our body- including our heart. The images were very detailed and made some of us squirm!

We spoke about the importance of caring for our bodies and others around us. Harold told us that it is important to be ourselves and that everyone is unique and special- we have to respect our friends.

To end our session we thought carefully about things we are grateful for in our lives- lots of us are very grateful for our families and the things we have at home.

It was nice to have a visitor and we enjoyed working together as a class to talk, listen and think.

Oak Class

Our topic of discussion for the session was healthy choices.  We watched a video of a boy being peer pressured into making an unhealthy decision and discussed what we would have advised him to do or what we would do if we were in his position.

It was a lively and interesting discussion with lots of opinions and suggestions.  We considered how the choices we make effect not only the people around us but also our own body.  It was a very enjoyable and informative session.
