Sports 4 Champions

Today the children had the privilege of meeting Ezekiel Ewulo who is an England and Nigerian international and Olympic long jumper.

'Zeeks' as he is know to his friends, took all year groups through an enjoyable 4 minute exercise programme showing pupils how they can improve their own personnel fitness by doing a short routine regularly.

Zeeks then took our school assembly. He showed the children his medals and told them that his career as a long jumper started when he was still at school. He found he was good at long jump after first playing football and then trying out as a sprinter in athletics.  His longest jump to date is just under 8 metres and his goal is now to beat his own personal record.  Two of the children, Miss Chetwode and Mr Davies were challenged to a standing long jump!  After their attempts Zeeks showed us how it should be done, leaping across the width of our hall.

His training regime is very strict, 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening, like school he follows a routine with rules which he talked to the children about, including what happens if you don’t follow the rules or cheat.

He told the children about the importance of a good diet, protein rich with lots of vegetables to enhance your bodies performance and to keep you healthy, he did have a little treat now and then, chocolate cookies from M & S were his favourite.

Zeeks finished with a question and answer session, handing out of posters and photographs.

A lovely visit with lots of information. Well done to all the children who collected sponsorship money, £1378, which will go towards improving our PE even further.  Our latest venture is to introduce handball into our curriculum and playtimes and so we are going to use funds to buy the relevant equipment.
