Chestnut Class - Remembrance Day
In Flanders Fields
The poem, ‘In Flanders Fields,’ made me feel sad, happy and kind of ‘bless you,’ because they gave their lives for us. I like the poem because it helps people remember the soldiers that died in the war and maybe some of your family who died in the war. There are two lines that affect me. They are the ones in the second paragraph on the second and third lines. The fact that it said, ‘short days ago we lived,’ and then the fact that they died makes me feel sad. The ‘In Flanders Fields’ poem reminds me of my Grandad’s Dad because he fought in World War II and my Grandad was a baby in World War II as well. It also reminds me of the purple poppy my mum wears for animals that died in the war. I think it is an important poem because it was an actual soldier who wrote it.
