Oak Class visit Selborne
On the 5th October Oak Class went to Gilbert White Study Centre in Selbourne for our Topic Rivers. At the river our instructor Andy gave each group different experiments, measuring the width and depth of water, draw a cross-section of the river bank, test the flow of a measured section of water using a rubber duck and a stopwatch, draw an aerial view of a 10 metre section of the river including deposition, erosion, stone formation, and meanders. Lastly Andy poured a small amount of dye into the water to show river speed and T.E.D (transportation, erosion, deposition).
After a well needed lunch, it was time to climb the zig zag path up to the hanger. Although it was exhausting, it was great fun.
At the top of the hanger Oak Class used natural resources to build a model of a river from source to mouth. Unfortunately we were having so much fun before we knew it, we had to walk back to the study centre to pack our things and catch the coach back to school. Everybody learnt a lot and enjoyed our trip to the Gilbert White Study Centre.
