KS2 - Art Gallery Trip
Oak and Chestnut classes went to visit Southampton City Art Gallery. While we were there, we participated in an Art workshop where we made faces and human figures using wire and pipe cleaners. We also had a tour of some of the more significant pieces in the collection: a portrait by Gainsborough, ‘The Diver’ by Antony Gormley, François-Pascal-Simon Gérard’s portrait of Napoleon and a 14th Century triptych painted using tempera. We discussed how artists can use colour within their work to communicate meaning with their audience. After a brief lunch, we had time to explore the gallery more before we returned to school. Our guides, Ali and Lisa, were very informative and we learnt lots from them.
