QMC - Willow Class

Willow Class went to OMC Science centre to explore our 5 main senses. We observed and tested each of the senses: seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling.

Seeing:
The children all had a turn at being blind folded and were then led around an obstacle course, there were a lot of giggles and the children leading worked hard to use directional language to help their ‘blind’ partner!

Hearing:
As a group the children explored their hearing sense through investigations. They took turns to be blind folded and had to listen carefully for different sounds so they could name them. Also, they had to point to the direction a sound was coming from.

Tasting:
Everyone got to taste different varieties of apples to investigate if they were all the same, the children were not allowed to look! They even got to try different flavoured chocolate to investigate the different tastes.

Touching:
Willow class took turns at being blind folded and were then tickled. They had to name the body part they felt the tickle. The children also compared 5 bottles, all with different temperature water in. They ordered the bottles from coolest to warmest, using their sense of touch successfully.

Smelling:
A number of different smells were inside little black containers that all looked the same. The children had to try and work out what the smells were only using their noses. Some smells were delicious and some were horrid!

Willow class loved being scientists for the morning and enjoyed playing in the outside area, using all their senses to explore.
