Chestnut Class visit Butser Ancient Farm
Chestnut Class visited Butser Hill Ancient Farm as part of our ‘Digging in the Past topic. We had a fantastic day learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We learnt that there were three parts to the Stone Age- Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic. At the farm we were lucky enough to experience what it would have been like to live as a Stone Age and Iron Age child. We sat in replica Stone Age and Iron Age houses- the Iron Age house was a round house and had a fire in the middle!
We took part in four different activities. We became archaeologists and dug up artefacts; we made Iron Age jewellery; became a farmer and made a wattle fence and we used clay to make Stone Age and Iron Age clay pots.
The trip was very hands on and we had lots of fun learning new facts- it was a great way to start our new topic.
