Fishbourne Roman Palace

On Wednesday 29th of March, Chestnut Class of Cliddesden Primary school went on a school trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace.

When we arrived we went to see a video about the history of Fishbourne Roman Palace. After this, we split into our groups. Some groups went to see the mosaics and some when to see the museum.

The groups which explored the mosaics looked at the different mosaics which were put in place when the Palace was used as a home. The mosaics were amazing and some were in nearly perfect condition. Lots of us recognised one, Cupid on a Dolphin, as one which we have studied in class.

The groups which went to the museum looked at lots of different objects from the Roman era and things which they have found when they discovered the Roman Palace. We were also shown some different objects and a lady explained what they were used for.

After that we went to a workshop where a member of the museum staff told us lots of things about the Romans and we all had a chance to dress up as Romans and have a go at some Roman activities such as, writing our names in Roman lettering and making mosaics.

We then had lunch and then we did the activity we had not done in the morning, before going back to school. We all enjoyed the trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace immensely and learnt a lot about the Romans as well as seeing some of the things we have been talking about in class.
